Goal of the Project: The Spartanburg County Detention Center, located in Spartanburg, SC, is committed to reducing recidivism through innovative programs that address the root causes of criminal behavior. As our VISTA, you will connect the inmate veteran population with military benefits, community resources, and Veterans Treatment Court. You will create and update a Veterans' Transitional Resource Guide to ease transition back into the community.
Skills Needed: Strong communication skills, writing/editing, community organization, proficiency in computers / technology, leadership, program development, fundraising / grant writing, data collection and analysis, volunteer recruitment and management.
Required Qualifications: Must be 21 years of age or older. Bachelor's degree. Fluent in written and spoken English. Basic technology skills. Ability to pass criminal background check. Excellent communication skills. An interest in providing assistance to those in a detention setting.
Preferred Qualifications: Ability to communicate priorities and needs on an ongoing basis. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite. Ability to work with others in close proximity.
Additional Benefits: Uniform provided. Companion cat lives at the detention center (can be avoided if allergic).
